Return of The Great White Whale

We’ve been back from Michigan for a few days now and as before, I’ve been dressing the wound and taking pictures of the healing process. This time the dressing part is almost optional (Carol can do it herself) and the healing is very obvious.
This first picture is from last night. That would be 7 days after surgery.
Compared to this one taken over a month after surgery [that’s just nasty].
Carol has been experiencing very little in the way of agonizing pain. The main exception being late at night when she has been waking up due to some extreme pain, but it is because she is getting leg cramps that are contracting all the muscles, which, for obvious reasons, is rather painful. Most of what she is experiencing these day is “real” pain vs. the nerve pain. She says the real pain is easier to deal with.
Dr. Ertl was kind enough to forward some surgery pictures which are below.

Hi Tim and Carol,
I wrote to Carol last year to talk about her operation as I was seriously thinking about it. As I write this I am 3 days post-op from my Ertl. I am sorry Carol as been put through so much pain and additional surgery and I hope this is the last of it. I do know that positive attitude is contagious and is the only way one should approach such an operation.
Good luck!
