For those who were asking: Carol is in room 760 Bed 2 @ Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, MI. [ updated to new room ]

Carol was awake and communicative when they rolled her in. She got changed out of the surgical gown and into a regular gown. She got sick, much like last time, but since she hasn't eaten or had anything to drink there wasn't much to get out. We are waiting for her Diet Coke and ice cream to show up.

Doctor Ertl found and removed a number of nerve neroma's (sp?). One was wrapped from front to back, another appeared to be grown into the bone bridge. He expressed optimism that the removal of those will go a long towards making her pain issues go away. He also shaved the ragged edge of the bone, which was causing her a lot of physical pain.

She's fallen a sleep now, but seems much better than she was after the original surgery. She didn't have an epidural this time nor a catheter. She will probably be on crutches for 4-6 weeks, but of course a lot of that depends on how she heals. He stitched everything closed, except for a small area to allow draining and put a clamshell like cast on it to keep her knee straight.

Tim, thank you so very much for your diligence in keeping us updated! Sounds like everything went very well, not surprising since she is in excellent hands. Please give her a kiss and hug for me and tell her I love her.
