Post Surgery Day 2 Wrap Up
Wednesday, April 01 2009 - health
All things considered today was a rather boring day. I'll take a boring day at the hospital over an exciting one anytime so I'm happy with how this day went. I managed to put a full day of work in, sitting in a chair next to Carol and VPN'd into work.
Dr. Ertl came by the room around 4:45pm and dressed the wound. If you compare the Jan 9th picture below to the one from today you can see how different the two surgery out comes are. Her original surgery was on Jan 4th, so you are comparing 5 days after surgery vs. 1 day. She is pretty swollen still, but it looks much better than before.
April 1st vs. Jan 4th (2008)
They have Carol on a morphine pump, she has used it a total of 3 times since surgery. She said she didn't realize how much pain she was in until today. Now her leg hurts less than before the surgery.
Dr. Ertl spent a good 45 minutes sitting with Carol and I chatting and eating dinner. He bought us Lebanese food from a local restaurant, which was very good! Of course he brought more than we could have possibly eaten. We gave the leftovers to the nursing staff who were very appreciative. They all love Carol since she is always smiling and joking with them. It's not hard to see why they enjoy her. Most of the people they deal with are either crabby, unappreciative, or simply non responsive. Carol has had numerous roommates, each a little more unreal than the last. Nurses have a hard job putting up with all that goes on and trying to keep a smile.
We are tentatively scheduled to be released Friday am. As long as no infection or fever shows up we should be home by Saturday. She then has 4 to 6 weeks of time to recover before getting back into a prosthetic.

Hi Tim and Carol,
Wow, that DOES look a lot better! So glad to hear she feels well - she sounded really good on the phone too :-)
So Dr. Ertl didn't spring her for a pass out to dinner, huh? Just as well, she said she didn't have a THING to wear! What a nice nice man to bring dinner in like that; he obviously appreciates good company.
As always, Tim, thanks for keeping us up to date, it is appreciated so very much by all of us.
Love to you both! XOXOXO
