Ertl Amputation Week 7

Thursday, June 12 2008 -

We are only a few days into week 7, but I wanted to put up a bunch of pictures. These range over about a week in time. For the most part there isn't a lot of visible difference between the earlier pictures and these. One thing that is obvious is that the stump shrinker has greatly reduced the size of Carol's calf. I had her put both legs up together so you can see the difference.

From a pain management standpoint she is still experiencing a lot of pain. She (in my opinion) tends to error on the side of not enough medication and suffers needlessly, though I understand why she does that and I would probably be the same.

I think her overall mental stamina is starting to wear down. If there was major obvious improvement day to day that would be one thing, but the constant levels of pain and very slow progress are taking their toll. I think she is doing great with all of it. It certainly isn't easy and I continue to be amazed at her ability to cope with everything going on. I haven't gotten into the insurance issues yet; nor the hospital bills, but those things are starting to come around and are adding a significant level of stress when it really isn't needed.
