Ertl Amputation Week 4

Thursday, June 12 2008 -

Since last week things have slowly progressed. Carol experienced a fair amount of stump pain from the debridement, which has gradually subsided to a manageable level. We go back to see Dr. Ertl tomorrow and he promised another debridement so I'm sure she will not be all that happy the rest of the week.

Beyond that the wound does show good signs of closing on either end. We took some pictures at the last change of the vac, but they were rather ugly so I've decided not to post them.

Carol and I went out on Friday night to seem some of my former co-workers and had a good time. It was the first time she had been out at night since the surgery. Getting her back into the car was fun since I had to carry her over a large snow bank. She has found that if she keeps the physical pain down via pain killers then the phantom pain is much less severe and occurs far less often.

She is looking forward to getting back to work. Being cooped up in this tiny apartment for weeks on end is enough to drive anyone crazy. We went out to dinner last night, just to get out of the building. It was snowing all day today so we decided not to venture forth.

Pictures are from when we went out.
