Ertl Amputation Day 5
Thursday, June 12 2008 - health
Day 5 was a bad day; much like day 4.
I tried to call Carol a number of times today; only once did I actually get her on the phone and all she said was 'hi. I'll call you later'. Five words. She never called. Those five words almost broke my heart because I could hear the pain in her voice.
I got hold of her mother around 8pm this evening and she told me that Carol had a day much like yesterday. Not quite as bad, but close. She has been taken off the morphine and they are having trouble with pain management. She is also still running a slight fever, lower than previous days, but it is still present.
According to her mom the biggest issue is that every time she seems to get to a good place she ends up having a muscle spasm and the agony starts all over again. I took my kids to dinner at Chili's... I feel like an @$$*@! for not being there.
Carol apparently was able to move around a bit more today using the crutches. She is gaining confidence or loosing the fear of falling. Either way it is a good thing.
I will be there tomorrow and until they discharge her.
