McDonalds is Going to Make it Easier to Get Really Fat
Thursday, June 12 2008 - food - 0 comments
According to this story on msnbc.com here McDonalds is testing a larger burger and it is exceeding it sales goals. Seriously folks do we really need more burger to go with our fries and soda? How obese does everyone have to get before we decide enough is enough. Yeah I realize it's a free market and people aren't being forced to buy it, but like everything else, marketing is king. Very few people have the willpower to stop eating especially if they have bought something with their hard earned money. Speaking of will power, there is an interesting article about it on Cognitive Daily here that talks...
Barefoot Pinot Grigio
Thursday, June 12 2008 - wine - 0 comments
Another fairly inexpensive yet good wine is the California Barefoot Pinot Grigio. For some reason the wine isn't listed on their site here. The wine was less than $10 at Stop and Shop. It has a rather smooth taste, without any bitterness. Ah what a compelling review I know. Go buy one and try for yourself. Let me know if you like it.Lose Weight by Eating Breakfast

Around my house my wife and I have managed to lose 17% of our combined body weight.... that's a lot. Now consider this tidbit: neither one of us were even slightly over weight, yet together we have lost almost 50lbs. So the secret is in the title of this post. It isn't stop eating meals, it isn't some fad diet and funky pills. It is simply eat breakfast every single day. Now you have to eat a good breakfast. I almost always ate something: poptarts, donuts, a soda and an apple pie (yum). When I say eat breakfast these days I mean something a little healthier. A year ago I decided to make a fruit...
Honeygraham Pork Chops and Noodles
Thursday, June 12 2008 - main-meal - 0 comments
I've made this recipe with both thin sliced pork chops and pork ribs. If you use ribs make sure you slice them down to less than 1 inch thick and cut off the excess fat. This recipe is also very good with chicken. Ingredients 5 - 6 Honey Graham Crackers 1 Package Pork Chops (thin sliced or boneless pork ribs sliced) 4 Tablespoons of Olive Oil 1 Teaspoon Pepper 1 Tablespoon Salt 2 Garlic cloves Spaghetti noodles Directions Place the crackers into a plastic baggy. I use a freezer back since they tend to take abuse better. Then give bag to your 7 year old and ask him to fully crush the crackers. It...
Easy Chicken and Tomatoes in CrockPot
Thursday, June 12 2008 - main-meal - 0 comments
Normally I create a recipe from something I already have done, but in this case I just decided to throw some things together and it turned out rather well. The best part is it took about 5 minutes to prepare. Ingredients 1 Pkg Chicken Breasts 2 14oz Cans of Diced Tomatoes - With assorted additives - Garlic, Jalapeno, Olive Oil, etc. I just mix them up and don't really pay much attention to which ones I use 1 10oz Jar of Ragu Spaghetti sauce 1 Tsp Ground Pepper Steps Place the chicken in the bottom of the *** pot Pour the diced tomatoes and spaghetti sauce over the top Cook on Low for 8-10 hours...
Villa Maria New Zealand Private Bin Riesling
Thursday, June 12 2008 - wine - 0 comments
I picked up this bottle tonight at the store. It was on sale ($2.00) off the bottle. I usually enjoy Rieslings because of their fruity flavors and this one is no exception. The first whiff of it gave a very strong sense of the fuity mix of flavors it has. There is almost a champagne type tingle when you sip it with a lingering lime(?) taste. Very intruging. I will have to find some recipee to go with it. This is the first New Zealand wine I think I've ever tried. Given the really cheap price it was a good buy....

Here's another quick to fix recipe that tastes great. 1 Package Pork Ribs (boneless) 1/4 cup cranberry preserves 1/4 cup Apple Vinegar cider 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard 1 Tablespoon olive oil Brown the pork ribs (I cut the larger ones in half) in the olive oil. Mix the preserves, vinegar and mustard together and pour into pan. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes or until fully cooked. Serve over riceBaked Cinnamon and Honey Chicken Breasts With Pear

This is one I put together tonight. No recipe, no measurements just tossed everything into a pan and stuck it into the oven. The best part, besides how good it turned out, is the fact that it took all of 10 minutes to prepare. I used a stone ground 2" baking pan, but a ceramic or glass one would work just as well. 3 Chicken Breasts 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon 3 Tablespoons Honey (or more if you want) 1 Teaspoon Ground Pepper Preheat the over to 375. Cut the chicken into small pieces (about 1" cubes) and place in the pan Sprinkle pepper over chicken Core, peal and quarter pear and arrange on top of chicken...

I tend to enjoy cooking meals. I usually start with a recipe and then modify as I go along. I thought I put up a few of my favorite(s) and this is the place I'm going to put them.
